WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: OUTDOOR EDUCATION

I am once again linking up with Miss DeCarbo @ Sugar and Spice for another Wordless Wednesday.  "In the world of teaching, a picture can say it all!"

Last week was Outdoor Education!!  My 6th graders and I ditched the classroom and made our way to Camp Lutherhaven for an two-day camping extravaganza.  The weather was fantastic!!

While on our Outdoor Education adventure, we learned how to use a compass, got creative with nature, learned a bit about probability, and went on a pretty spectacular scavenger hunt.  We also enjoyed tether-ball, kickball, volleyball, night hikes, canoeing, archery, a whole lot of sunshine.  …and I SURVIVED!!

Check back later for a post all about our trip
to Camp Lutherhaven for Outdoor Education!

What EXTREME field trips do you take near the end of the year?  Is any one else brave enough to take their fabulous students on an overnight adventure?  Do you know any classes that have an "outdoor education" experience?  What activities should I work into NEXT year's trip?

    1. It is such a GREAT trip!!! ...to be honest, I totally dread Outdoor Education as it approaches. Then we get to camp, and all the planning is so worth it! We actually go with two other Lutheran schools in the area. It is a great opportunity for my 6th graders to meet new people and step outside that comfort zone! : ]

  2. Our 5th grade goes to D.C., but that is as hardcore as we get. We did manage to get stranded in the middle of a safari park yesterday with buckets of food for a good 20 minutes. My poor second graders went from thinking the animals were so cool when they were eating from our buckets for the first five minutes. Then, they got really scared! Def. a crazy field trip for us!

    1. uh. WOW! I certainly consider a trip to Washington D.C. with 5th graders to be extreme!! I didn't have that opportunity until I was in 8th grade. ...and any field trip story that includes the word stranded sounds like instant anxiety! Glad you survived!!
